Very little of Tasmania’s nineteenth century case law is available in printed form, with reported cases only being available from 1896. For material prior to 1896 the only publication is the Digest of Cases Decided in Tasmania, 1856-1896, by L F S Hore and published by the Southern Law Society of Tasmania in 1897.
Stefan Petrow of the University of Tasmania and Bruce Kercher of Macquarie University are involved in a joint project to provide access to decisions of the Supreme Court of Van Diemen’s Land from 1824. This is an ongoing project and currently decisions are available for the years 1824 to 1843.
