Supreme Court of Tasmania

No. 8 of 2009 31 July 2009

The Supreme Court Rules, Schedule 2, provide for a fee of $17.50 for every search or inspection of any index, register, file or other document, except where any such search or inspection is made by a person who is a party to that cause or matter or the practitioner for that party.

Until now, a search fee has been charged by each of the registries, namely Hobart, Launceston and Burnie, if a state wide search was required.

Due to improvements made to the Civil Registry Management System database, a state-wide search will now be able to be done from one Registry. Accordingly, the search fee for a state-wide search will be reduced as one search fee only will be charged for each search, ie one search fee of $17.50 for each name searched. This will take effect for searches received on and from 3 August 2009.

Search requests can be sent to the Hobart Registry by using the Litigation email request, and putting the name/s to be searched in the Subject Box of the email.

Please note that the database contains data covering the period from 1990 to the present.

There is no change to the way an inspection fee is charged as it is charged for each file inspected.
