In criminal trials where the hearing of evidence is expected to take no more than one day, a transcript will no longer be provided automatically.
This policy will apply unless the trial judge directs otherwise. If counsel wish to request a transcript, this application should be made as early as possible. The making of such an application on the day of the trial should be avoided.
Applications can be made by letter setting out the reasons for the request.
The trial grid which is issued by the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for each sittings will include an estimate of the length of each trial.
