Grants

If a person has been appointed as an executor under a Will they will sometimes need to obtain probate of the Will. This is done by making an application to the Supreme Court.

What is a grant of probate?

Probate is granted when the Supreme Court gives approval to the Will which the executor had lodged with the Court.

Once there has been a grant of probate, the executor is able to collect the assets and pay any debts owed by the deceased person. When that process is finalised, the executor can distribute the estate of the deceased person as directed in the Will.

Will you need a grant?

This will depend on the nature and extent of the assets to be administered.
