Courts Tasmania

SUPREME COURT OF TASMANIA

CIRCULAR TO PRACTITIONERS

No. 9 6 June 2008
Judicial court apparel in criminal trials and appeals

As from the sittings commencing 16 June 2008, the practice of Judges wearing red robes in criminal trials and appeals will be discontinued.

Black robes will be worn for both civil and criminal matters.  Judges will continue to wear wigs in the Criminal Court.

As a matter of interest, I advise my belief that the red robes have been worn since about 1954.
