CIRCULAR TO PRACTITIONERS

CRIMINAL COURT MATTERS LISTED FOR MONDAY, 21 JULY 2014

Special arrangements will be made, as set out below, for criminal matters listed for Monday, 21 July so that the judges can attend the State Funeral for His Excellency the Honourable Peter Underwood AC.

Persons on bail

All Hobart matters involving persons on bail will be dealt with in Court 7, commencing at 10am on Monday, 21 July, as usual.

 

All Launceston matters involving persons on bail will be dealt with by video link by a judge sitting in Court 1 in Hobart at 10am on 21 July.

 

All Burnie matters involving persons on bail will be dealt with by video link by a judge sitting in Court 1 in Hobart on 21 July. Those matters are listed for 2.15pm. They will be dealt with as soon after 2.15pm as possible, following the conclusion of the State Funeral.

Persons in custody

All matters in which the accused are in custody and have been remanded to 21 July will be relisted for 22 July. This applies to matters in Hobart, Launceston and Burnie.

 

Porter J will sit in Court 7 in Hobart at 10am on Friday, 18 July to make an order, applicable to every such matter, extending the period of remand to 22 July. Defence counsel need not appear on 18 July unless they wish to make submissions that a different course should be taken. Unrepresented prisoners will appear by video link on that occasion. It is not proposed that prisoners with legal representation will appear on that occasion.

 

All Hobart matters involving persons in custody will be listed for 3pm on Tuesday, 22 July instead of 2.15pm on Monday, 21 July.

 

All Launceston matters involving persons in custody will be listed for 10.30am on Tuesday, 22 July, instead of 10am on Monday, 21 July.

 

All Burnie matters involving persons in custody will be listed for 2pm on Tuesday, 22 July, instead of 2pm on Monday, 21 July.
