No. 4 - 26 April 2006

SUPREME COURT AMENDMENT RULES 2006

Statutory Rule No. 25/2006

These rules come into effect on the 1 May 2006.

The rules, relating to case management, were recommended by the Civil Case Management Committee, which was established by the Chief Justice in 2003. The rules deal with the duration of original writs and the period of their renewal, the time allowed for filing and service of defence and for filing and delivery of replies and defences to counter claims.

In addition to the rules above, the rules provide for two other matters – the powers of single judges of the Full Court to make costs orders on appeal and the rescission of rule 891 relating to conduct money.

CRIMINAL RULES 2006

Statutory Rule No. 24/2006

The judges have made new rules under the Criminal Code Act 1924. These rules take effect on the 26 April 2006.
