Re-sentencing
In 1994 the Criminal Code Act 1924 was amended by the Criminal Code Amendment (Life Prisoners and Dangerous Criminals) Act 1994. The changes made by the amending Act included:

abolition of mandatory life imprisonment for murder and treason;

changes to the dangerous offender provisions so that the courts are required to sentence a person declared a dangerous criminal to a term of imprisonment;

giving persons declared to be dangerous criminals the right to apply for discharge of the declaration; and
-
allowing lifers and dangerous criminals the right to apply for resentencing.
